Annotated Contents Of The Magazine "TARA I UPAKOVKA" No. 2-2025

The next, 2nd issue of the inter-industry magazine of the packaging industry "TARA I UPAKOVKA" for this year has been published.


Like all previous ones, this issue is full of the most up-to-date information about the current state of the packaging market, as well as advertising (targeted) announcements from both the largest domestic enterprises in the industry and small participants in the packaging market. The publication is a long-standing honorary information partner of the RosUpack exhibition and celebrates its 35th anniversary this season! The exhibition management thanks its colleagues for fruitful cooperation and support and wishes only victories!

The issue opens in the Analytics section with an article by Alexey Antipin , founder of the investment company Uniservice Capital, titled “THE PACKAGING MARKET IS GROWING IN ALL DIRECTIONS”. Compared to the rather difficult situation – due to the departure of foreign manufacturers in 2022 – in 2023 the market grew by 5% in both physical and monetary terms. Its total volume last year reached 1.47 trillion rubles. At the same time, by the end of 2024, the packaging market in Russia reached a volume of 1.55 trillion rubles due to the increase in production and consumption of packaging materials. The author of the article talks about how the packaging market is currently doing and what the forecasts are for its near future. The article is accompanied by a series of graphs clearly showing the market situation in Russia and the world.

 

The article "RECORD OUTPUT OF CORRUGATED CARDBOARD CONTAINERS" was prepared by the editorial board based on the research materials "The market of corrugated packaging in Russia 2024", "The market of boxes and cartons made of non-corrugated cardboard in Russia 2024", "The market of paper sacks and bags in Russia 2024". According to the operational data of Rosstat, in 2024, the trends of decline in the production of packaging from non-corrugated cardboard and growth in the production of packaging from corrugated cardboard continued. Over 10 months of 2024, the production of corrugated containers increased by 6%, while non-corrugated containers decreased by 7.5%.

 

The Analytics section presents the volumes of the global paper and plastic packaging market with comments from RUPEC. In particular, an article by financial journalist Mohamed Dabo was published : "WHAT DOES THE AMERICAN PACKAGING SECTOR EXPECT FROM TRUMP?", related to the election of Donald Trump as US President. It is assumed that Trump's political program will have a significant impact on the country's economy and create tangible ripple effects around the world... The volumes of the packaging market in the US are presented below.

 

The Belgian company Esko, one of the world's leading developers of integrated software and hardware for the production of packaging, labels and large-format printing. At the end of last year, this company published an electronic brochure "Packaging Trends 2025" , on the pages of which the important trends in the field of packaging that will determine the industry in the current year are considered. The attention of readers, in the "Analytics" section, is offered a brief overview of the contents of this brochure.

 

The Materials section contains an article by Sibur: POLYMERS: FOCUS ON PROCESSING . Almost 2.5 thousand new polymer processing enterprises were registered in Russia in 2024, according to Plastinfo and the Federal Tax Service. This is a record figure for the last eight years! Mikhail Katsevman, President of the Union of Plastics Processors, notes that the Russian polymer industry is demonstrating steady growth and adapting to new economic conditions, focusing mainly on the domestic consumption market.

 

The **Marketing** section contains an article titled "GLOBALDATA. THE IMPORTANCE OF ALTERNATIVE PACKAGING SOLUTIONS" Growing concerns about phthalates in plastic packaging highlight the importance of alternative packaging solutions, notes GlobalData. The article, in particular, discusses how health concerns can influence packaging choices. Environmental organizations are increasingly drawing attention to the numerous health risks associated with phthalates, leading to concerns about the use of plastic packaging in processed foods and beverages.

 

In the same section, the article "THE MOST MODERN GLASS WORKSHOP IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION WILL BE OPENED IN DAGESTAN" was published . As a result, the company "Dagestan Glass Tara", which will become one of the most modern glass industry enterprises in Russia.

 

The Exhibitions and Competitions section contains an article entitled “RECORD INDICATORS AT THE INTERNATIONAL SPECIALISED EXHIBITIONS UPAKEXPO, RUPLASTICA AND RECYCLING SOLUTIONS 2025”. These largest exhibitions in Russia were held at the beginning of the year at the Expocentre Fairgrounds. Traditionally, the Tara i Upakovka magazine provides information support for these exhibitions and actively participates in their holding. In particular, this year the magazine organised a conference dedicated to the problems of training personnel for work in the packaging industry. At its stand, the magazine traditionally presented the Museum of Brands, History and Design of Packaging.

 

The article "EPR IS NOT A TAX, BUT A DEVELOPMENT TOOL" provides preliminary results of the implementation of the extended producer responsibility (EPR) reform. They were summed up by experts during the round table "Why EPR is not a new tax. Scenario for a conscientious manufacturer". The event as part of the business program of the UpakExpo 2025 exhibition was organized by the National Confederation of Packaging (NKPak) and the Association for the Promotion of Circular Economy "Resource".

 

The World Packaging Organization (WPO) informed the editorial board that the prestigious award ceremony for the winners of the International Competition for the Best Packaging WorldStar Awards 2025 will take place on May 30, 2025 in Milan, during the international exhibition IPACK-IMA (May 27-30). This year, a record number of applications were submitted for the competition – 550 from 40 countries. The article presents some of the most interesting packages submitted for this competition.

 

The organizers of the 30th PROPAK CHINA 2025. EXHIBITIONS & COMPETITIONS (Shanghai, China) invite readers to participate in it. The exhibition is a key event in the packaging industry in China and will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center Shanghai from June 24 to 26, 2025.

 

In March, in Moscow, the partner of the magazine "Tara i Upakovka" company CREON organized a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the problems of using polyethylene terephthalate in the packaging business "PET 2025" . At this conference, key indicators and trends in the development of the industry were presented. At the event, the President of the Association of Manufacturers and Processors of Polyethylene Terephthalate (ARPET) Natalia Selezneva spoke with a report "Current situation in the FMCG and packaging market of the Russian Federation. PET market in 2024"

 

In March, the IV Practical Conference "The Second Life of Polymer Materials" was held in Moscow . It attracted a record number of participants. Specialists from more than 80 industry companies, industry experts, representatives of government agencies, and specialized NGOs met at the conference and took part in technology visits. By the end of 2024, the volume of plastic recycling in Russia reached 7.1–7.3 million tons. Of these, approximately 850–900 thousand tons were secondary polymers, which is about 12% of the total volume of plastic waste generated in the country.

 

The section "History of Packaging" contains an article by the honorary president of the Moscow Philumenists Club "Souvenir", retired lieutenant colonel Vladimir Barmakov - "AND MATCHES FIGHTED FOR OUR VICTORY!" The main creator of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was the multinational Soviet people, who confirmed the mighty vitality of our people, inexhaustible unity and high moral qualities! At the same time, a significant role in the Great Victory was played by ... ordinary matches. Today, matchbox labels issued during the Great Patriotic War have become an enormous rarity and, in fact, unique material documents of that era.
